The 6th International Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics in Heavy-ion Reactions (IWND2018) was held in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, China during June 10th to 14th, 2018, jointly hosted by Huzhou University, Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics (SINAP), Beijing Normal University (BNU) and Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU).
IWND is a series international workshop on heavy ion reaction dynamics for the international nuclear reaction community, following nearly 2-year cycle among different regions in China (Beijing-2007, Shanghai-2009, Shenzhen-2012, Lanzhou-2014, Xinxiang-2016 and Huzhou-2018), the series workshop provides a great opportunity for the international heavy-ion reaction community to get informed of recent development of nuclear reaction physics in China.
This 2018-edition was held in Huzhou where Huzhou University is located, China. More than 100 researchers from nine countries, namely China, Japan, South Korea, France, India and USA, have participated in the event. The conference held 27 invited and 28 oral presentations. Twelve of these submissions were finally selected, after call for papers and the journal review process, to contribute to this Special Section on the sixth edition of IWND 2018.
IWND’18 aims to reflect the latest trends and dynamics in the international heavy-ion reaction field, especially in intermediate energy domain, through its well structured scientific programme, which incorporates invited oral presentations and contributed oral presentations. It has reported most recent advances in heavy-ion nuclear reaction dynamics and isospin effects, symmetry energy in nuclear matter and neutron stars, phase transitions in strong interacting matter, reaction dynamics for superheavy elements and weakly bound nuclei, nuclear dynamics induced by protons (anti-protons), mesons and photons, nuclear clusters, hypernuclei, astrophysics-nuclear aspects and experimental opportunities in Chinese nuclear physics facilities.
The conference was held at Huzhou-Dongwu New Century Grand, a venue that guarantees success of this conference while offering exceptional leisure facilities including swimming pool. During the conference, the auditorium was always full and the attendees were very active in the discussion. As a social program, the excursion to Nanxun Town which is a historic scenic town, gave good visiting experience of the water village in southern China to the participants.
The ANPhA (AAPPS-DNP) Awards for Young Scientists was issued during the workshop. This Award was set up by the Asian Nuclear Physics Association and the Division of Nuclear Physics of the Association of Asia Pacific Societies in 2017, aiming to encourage young PhD students and post-doctors for their excellent research results and presentations in nuclear physics conference organized in Asia Pacific area. It is the first time to issue the ANPhA (AAPPS-DNP) Awards for Young Scientists in China. Three excellent young speakers were selected as the winner of the Awards. Zhengqiao Zhang (Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, CAS) won the First Rank Award for his presentation “Measurement of interaction between antiprotons”; Naibo Zhang (Shandong University, Weihai) won the Second Rank Award for his presentation “Matching constraints on the equation of state of dense neutron-rich matter from terrestrial experiments and observations of neutron stars”; Pengcheng Li (Lanzhou/Huzhou University) won the Third Rank Award for his presentation “Effects of the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section on collective flow and nuclear stopping in heavy-ion collisions in the Fermi-energy domain”.
The workshop was supported in part by the China Center of Advanced Science and Technology (CCAST), the Chinese Nuclear Physics Society (CNPS),the Asian Nuclear Physics Association (ANPhA) and the journal of Nuclear Science and Techniques (NST) which is publishing this workshop proceeding.
During the workshop the International Advisory Committee and LOC decided that the seventh International Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics in Heavy-ion Reactions (IWND2020) will be held in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, a city nearby Macau and Honghong by Sun Yat-sen University (Zhuhai campus) in 2020.
