Special Section on International Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics in Heavy-Ion Reactions (IWND 2014)
The International Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics in Heavy-Ion Reactions (IWND-2014) was held in Institute of Modern Physics, Lanzhou, China, August 15 – 19th, 2014. This is the 4th edition of this series workshop. The 1st one was held in Beijing, 2007, the 2nd was in Shanghai, 2009 and the 3rd in Shenzhen, 2012. The purpose of the series workshop is to exchange information with international and domestic experts on nuclear dynamics and to focus on some current hot topics in this field. More than 110 researchers from 10 countries participated in IWND-2014 workshop and 60 of them gave talks which covered a large variety of hot topics, including heavy-ion nuclear reaction dynamics and isospin effects, symmetry energy in nuclear matter and neutron stars, phase transitions in strongly interacting matter, reaction dynamics for super-heavy elements and weakly bound nuclei, nuclear dynamics induced by protons (anti-protons) and mesons, and nuclear astrophysics. These talks demonstrated that significant progress had been made in recent years both experimentally and theoretically while there were still a number of questions remaining open in the field. Furthermore, active and fruitful discussions were made on the experimental opportunities in some large-scale scientific facilities and possible international collaborations in these areas.
We thank all the speakers and participants for their valuable talks and lively discussions. We are grateful to the International Advisory Committee members and the Local Organizing Committee members of the workshop for their valuable opinions and suggestions. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Institute of Modern Physics (IMP-CAS), Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics (SINAP-CAS), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), Beijing Normal University (BNU), China Center of Advanced Science and Technology (CCAST) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NNSFC) for their financial supports. Finally, our special thanks are to the staffs and students of Institute of Modern Physics for their tireless assistance and wonderful service during the conference.
