Studies on irradiation stability of polystyrene by NMR 1 first-author 1 1 Xinjiang University, Urumqi 830046 Xinjiang University, Urumqi 830046 The irradiation stability of polystyrene (PS) was studied by 13 C and 1 H NMR spectra, Nuclear Overhauser Relaxation (NOE) and 13 C NMR spin-lattice relaxation time ( T l ). The results indicate that 13 C and 1 H NMR chemical shifts, NOE and T l were almost invariant with the increase of irradiation dose. This shows that polystyrene is particularly stable within 2.5 kGy doses and the mechanism of its stability is discussed.
