Track theory rested on the foundation of the radial distribution of dose from δ rays as the central contribution of atomic physics to heavy ion radiobiology. Here, a new calculation of the radial distribution of dose is applied, in which the classical angular distribution of dose of delta rays and a logarithmic polynomial representation of the electron range-energy relation are used, to form the basis of the present thindown calculation. Calculations of inactivation cross sections for heavy ions in the track width regime displaying thindown for E. Coli B/r and Bs-1, and for Bacillus Subtilus are straightforward for these are 1-hit detectors, Calculations for V-79 hamster cells are more complex. They follow the original development of this model for eucaryotic cells, and make use of the cross sections calculated for hypothetical internal targets which are then asserted to be proportional to the measured cellular inactivation cross sections. The results are in reasonable agreement with experimental data.

The proton-capture reactions 12C(p, γ)13N and 13C(p,γ)14N have been studied to determine 13C enrichments. The system has been calibrated by measuring the gamma-rays yield from the 12C(p,γ)13N and 13C(p,γ)14N reactions as a function of known 13C enrichment. This technique is applicable to the analysis of samples with 13C enrichments between 1% and 90%.

The monitor is composed of a pair of electrodes, a single stage of microchannel plate, a phosphor screen, a CCD camera and a PC computer. To obtain a good uniform collecting field, forming electrodes system is used instead of that with a resistive divider. The readout system is performed by the phosphor screen and the CCD camera because the spatial resolution is not limited by the mechanical structure like the anode strip type and such video display system is very useful for beam studies and operation of the 40 MeV linac. Besides, the design and test results are described in detail.

Generally, the walls of ceramic ware are thin and the sample to be used for TL dating has to be collected from 1~2mm under the surface. This can introduce significant error into the dating method. Therefore, the results of a series of simulated experiments are reported on the build-up effect of the internal β dose response in different thicknesses of pottery fragments (involving tile and brick). Correction factors, corresponding to different thicknesses, and correction "depths" are proposed in terms of the experimental findings which may be incorporatd into the dating methods.

The experiments demonstrate that with viewpoint of the pharmacokinetics and therapeutic effect the astatinated Fab fragment is well suited to 7.2 h half-life of 211At, since tumor uptake remains high (~10%/g) from 3 to 14 h after i.v. injection of 211At-3H11Fab, moreover, at the same dose the tumor inhibition with 211At-3H11Fab were 84.4% by weight and 86.4% by volume higher than with 211At-3H11 (67.1% and 67.8%, respectively) on 10d post last i.p. administration.

By the etching of PVDF (polyvinylidene) foils perpendicularly bombarded to their surfaces in advance with heavy ions at UNILAC (GSI Darmstadt, Germany), PVDF track microfilters are successfully manufactured and mostly evaluated by means of an optical microscope. The recipes of the elaboration, the properties as well as etching and technical parameters of the microfilters are summarized. The possible applications are also discussed briefly.

People travelling by air will receive more exposure dose and by water will receive less one. According to statistic data from the Ministry of Communications in 1988, the turnover in that year was about 2x1010 man·km. The total number of fishermen for inshore fishing was nearly two million reported by Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fishery. Based on measured data on 212 points in six typical shipping lines of inshore lines and inland rivers, and the total voyage is 5625 km, the average natural radiation dose rate received by travellers was calculated. From that assessment of collective effective dose for passengers by water and fishermen was derived. The value is 32.7 man·Sv for passengers and 265.3 man·Sv for fishermen.

By obtaining a feasible filter function, reconstructed images can be got with linear interpolation and filtered backprojection techniques. Considering the gray and spatial correlation neighbour informations of each pixel, a new supervised classification method is put forward for the reconstructed images, and an experiment with noise image is done, the result shows that the method is feasible and accurate compared with ideal phantoms.

In luminescence and ESR dating methods, total count rate from thick source alpha counting is commonly used for estimating annual dose with assumption of equal activities for both uranium and thorium decay chains. This is equal to a Th/U weight ratio of 3.2. The systematic error in total dose rate due to uncertainty of the ratio is calculated. It is found that the error is insignificant for uniformly distributed samples such as sediment, but can be significant for some extreme circumstances.

A new neutral complex, 99mTcCl(4-MCDO)3MeB,((Bis[4-methyl-1,2-cyclohex-anedionedioximato (1-)-O]-[4-methyl-1, 2-cyclohexanedione-dioximato(2-)-O]methyl-borato(2-)-N, N', N", N"', N"")-chlorotechnetium, generally called BATO (Boronic acid adducts of technetium dioximes), has been synthesized and evaluated for potential use in myocardial perfusion imaging. It has intrinsic affinity for the blood clearance. The uptake of heart, lung and blood in mice at 2min separately are 1.12, 2.48 and 6.66%ID. The complex formation is rapid, simple and highly yielded (≥ 93%). This process is easy to kit formation.

Analyses of 114 soil samples in Ningbo City show that, in general, there are statistical differences of 137Cs and 40K contents between every layers; the other kinds of natural radionuclides present an increasing tendency with depth. When the γ radiation dose rate is estimated by Beck Formula, owing to the effect of those nonuniform distributions is less than 1% and can be ignored.

The radioactivity induced in the coins from Satvahanas, Ahmadshah Bahamani, Gujrat Sultan, Nizamshahi and Marathas after (n,γ) reactions for the elements of interest is measured on multichannel analyzer coupled to high purity germanium detector and percentage of these elements is determined by comparator method of NAA. All these coins are found to be copper based with the presence of As, Sb, In, Au, Sn and Mn.
