By applying function minimization calculation method, two function expressions are used to simulate the magnetic field measured for cyclotron Cyclone 10 in azimuth and radius. The numerical fitting curves are consistent with magnetic field measured. In most places, the accuracies are several thousandth, except those errors to be pointed out in paper.

A study has been reported on 206Pb/206Pb and 207Pb/206Pb ratio variations in ancient drums and Cu-., Pb- ores from Guangxi, China and can indicate that the Cu- and Pb- bearing ores for making the Beiliu and the Lingshan type drums were taken from Tongshiling of Beiliu County and its vicinity, that were not only ancient sites for smelting the copper ores, but possibly also for casting the bronze drums. Some of the Lengshuichong type drums have abnormal Pb isotopic ratios, which means that they were made of special ore sources, one of the possibilities is that the ore material or the drums were transported from South- East Asia to Guangxi Province, because they have been excavated there too.

A track structure model has been applied to calculate the relative thermoluminescent efficiency of TLD- 100 irradiated with energetic heavy ions. In earlier work we proposed that the response of TLD- 100 to y - ray arises from a combination of 1- hit and 2- hit trap structures. The supralinear (2- hit) response is now known to diminish with a decrease in the energy of incident electrons. Since the delta rays of slow particles are of low energy, diminishing with a reduction in ion speed, we calculate the response to slow heavy ions by track theory as due to the 1- hit targets alone and obtain good agreement between theory and experiment. The branching of the experimental curves is principally caused by the kinematic limit in delta ray production for ions approaching the end of their range, an effect which is called "thidown" when seen in the tracks of heavy ions approaching the end of their range in electron sensitive nuclear emulsion.

The (n, 2n) cross- section for 23Na have been measured by the activation method in the energy range of En = 13.3-18.5 MeV. Monoenergetic neutrons were obtained from T(d,n) 4He reaction at Ed = 2.3 MeV. The induced specific activities were detected by a coincidence counting setup. For comparison, the other measured, evaluated and calculated data from En = 12-20 MeV are also given.

The positron lifetime spectroscopy was used to investigate the electron structures of crystal lattice and its defects in palladium samples filled galvanostatically with hydrogen and deuterium, respectively. The results have indicated that the positron lifetime were all the same between hydrogen and deuterium filled samples in which the positron lifetime τ, increased about 10%, corresponding to the volume expansibility after the formation of hydrides PdH or PdD phases during electrolyzing commom water or heavy water with Pd cathode; and will not change with time in 3 weeks after stopping electrolysis; but could be recovered to 116±1 ps, the value in polycrystalline pure palladium, after annealing at high temperature.

Uncoated DNA deposited on graphite surface was imaged in air with the scanning tunneling microscope (STM). The images revealed a helical pitch of 3.6 nm whereas the average width was 2.3nm. Periodic alternation of major and minor grooves were resolved with high resolution. Our STM images were in reasonable agreement with the B- form DNA structural model derived from X- ray diffraction studies. It was concluded that the STM could be useful for local structural studies of biomolecules.

Measurement of nitrogen in small live animals (Weighing about 3 kg) can be used to determine the whole- body protein in the animals. Nitrogen may be measured by IVNAA in which the capture gamma rays of neutron induced are detected and counted. The neutron flux is provided by a collimated 740 GBq (20Ci) Pu- Be source. The 10.83 MeV thermal neutron capture gamma rays from 14N are detected by a 12.7 cm by 10.2 NaI (Tl) detector. The nitrogen of a live rabbit was measured and recorded each day for a period of two months. The statistical error and reproducibility of measurement were around 10%. For a 1000 s irradiation the dose equivalent was 300µ Sv.

The concentrations of Ti and Ca, P, K, Fe, Cu and Zn in blood samples were determined by PIXE after a single intravenous and a single oral dosing with titanium- ascorbate (Ti- Vc) in Wister rats. Following the intravenous injection with 50 mg Ti- Vc/kg body weight, the absorption, distribution and clearance in blood could be described by an exponential equation of three terms. After gavaged with 500 mg Ti- Vc/kg body weight, at 1.5 h the content of Ti reached the highest level. The concentration of Ca was increasing with the absorption, distribution and clearance of Ti in blood. The contents of Fe and K were decreasing. And the contents of Cu and Zn were significantly fluctuating. The effect of Ti on animal growth could be explained by the fact that Ti- Vc supplementation could promote the absorption of Ca.

This paper described the 3H NMR determination of the positions and content of 24 tritium labeled aromatic and heterocyclic compounds prepared by catalytic tritiation derivatives, pyrrole, 1,2,4- triazole, thiazole, benzothiazole, purine and derivatives, indole, indanol, piperidine and derivative, diphenylamine, N- phenylanthranilic acid, 8- OH- quinoline, naphthol, diphenylether have been tritiated by catalytic exchange method using tritiated water and platinum catalyst (from the dioxide and sodium borohydride), and the pattern of labelling has been assigned by 3H NMR spectroscopy. The results show that this exchange process can give general labelling compounds at various time and temperatures. For 4- Br- diphenylether, Raney nickel was used instead of Pt as a catalyst.

Post- dehydration storage life of fruits and plant nuts such as apricot, raisin, date, fig, almond, peanut, pinenut and walnut, was studied. The results showed that radiation dose of 1.0 kGy completely inhibited insect infestation. Low dose radiation (0.25kGy) plus 20°C and vacuum extended the storage life for 6 and 12 months in dry nuts and fruits respectively without affecting nutritional quality except ascorbic acid. Packaging in opaque pouches under vacuum proved better than other treatments in maintaining nutritional and sensoric quality.
