In this report, the results of preliminary research on L- alanine/ESR electron dosimeters are described. They include the designs of modelling tools and experimental capsules, the preparation and irradiation of very thin dosimeters, the measurement of ESR signal spectrum and the calibration method. The physical, chemical and dosimetric properties of the alanine free radical dosimeters, such as the smallest thickness, average density, lowest detectable limit, repeatability of the method, reproducibility resulted in directivity and location in resonance cavity, linearity regions as well as relative scattering of the response to identical doses, are summarized.

The Shanghai FEL (SFEL) project at SINR is based on a RF linac in collaboration with the SIOFM. The prime goal of the project is to provide laser beams from the ultraviolet, visible to mid-IR with a few tens of MW in peak power and of Watts in average power. In the future, the wavelength region will be extend to the far-IR and vacuum ultraviolet. The SFEL will be a user facility for interdisciplinary studies.

It is found in this paper that the dielectric behavior of polyetherketone with cardo group (PEK- C) irradiated at a dose of 2.02 MGy has an obvious change. For the irradiated PEK-C, both the temperature spectrum of dielectric loss factor ( ε ") within a range of 20- 200 "C and the frequency spectrum of dielectric coefficient ( ε ') in a range of 30 Hz-1 MHz show that ε " and ε ' increase from 5.4×10-3 to 4.6×10-1 and from 3 to 5, respectively.

In order to avoid any possible effect of separating procedures from intact cell on morphologic structure of the chromosomes, cultivated Hep-2 tumor cells were treated with colchicine and observed by soft X-ray contact microscopy for the first time. The fine structures of chromosomes are more clear with stereo features. The thread-like and coarse granular structures twine and tangle up together within chromosome masses which can not easily be revealed in Wright's stained sample by light microscope or osmium stained sample by transmission electron microscope

Biological materials of garlic, Wulong-tea and human hair were investigated by 14.2 MeV proton activation analysis using internal standard method. Elemental concentrations of Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ge, Se, Sr, Cd, La and Pb in biological samples were determined under the 5×10-8-2×10-5g/g of sensitivities

In recent years the extrapolation chamber has been developed a clinical dosimeter for electron beams and X-rays from medical linac. It consists of a new type extrapolation chamber, a water phantom and an intelligent portable instrument. The chamber is fitted a thin entrance window and has a collecting electrode made of polystyrene 20 mm in diameter. The electrode spacing can be varied by stepping motor drive achieving high precision of electrode setting. The variable gap is as small as 0.20 mm to 6 mm. The dosimeter can automatically finish the measuring process, and has error self-test and dose self-recording function. The total uncertainty is 2.7 %.

The effects of γ -radiation on three chloro-sulfonated polyethylene (CSM) with different chlorine content have been investigated, the effects of γ -radiation on some physical properties of CSM have been discussed. The results showed that three CSM can be easily crosslinked by irradiation, the crosslinking degree related to chlorine content, at the same radiation dose, the more the chlorine content in CSM, the easier the CSM to be crosslinked, unirradiated CSM has good mechanical properties (tensile strength and elongation), the effect of irradiation dose on dielectric properties was insignificant.

The large fragment of E.coli DNA polymerase I is imaged by scanning tunneling microscope. The specimen is deposited on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite surface, and then covered with pure paraffin oil in order to maintain hydration of the molecules. Images of the enzyme reveal an ellipsoid shape of 5.5-6.0 nm wide and 7.0-7.5 nm long. The conformation of the enzyme is in agreement with the model derived from X-ray crystallography studies.

Thin films of Ta or Co- Cr- W deposited on 2Cr13 stainless steel were irradiated with 200 keV Xe+ or 190 keV N+ at room temperature. The results of electrochemical corrosion behaviour of the resulting films in H2SO4 solution show that the corrosion resistance is greatly improved compared with that of virgin steel. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis, Rutherford backscattering spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry were used to determine the surface composition of the irradiated layers, and Ta depth profile and chemical states.

99mTc-labelled metallothionein (99mTc-MT) was prepared through both direct and transcomplexation labelling approaches. Buffer systems and a variety of other parameters in the direct labelling procedure were studied in detail. High radiolabelling yields of 93-96% and the specific radioactivity of 3.7 MBg/µg were obtained under optimal conditions by the direct labelling method. The prepared 99mTc-MT was stable in vitro. The chelate-exchange kinetics of MT with 99mTc-glucohepatonate and 99mTc-citrate were also studied. Biodistribution and imaging studies showed that 99mTc-MT was accumulated in the animal kidneys at an exceptionally high level, indicating that 99mTc-MT might be a potential renal imaging agent.

An INAA technique was applied to determine simultaneously abundances of rare-earth, transitional metal, large-ion lithophile and high field strength elements in volcanic rocks from Tangbale ophiolite belt. The detailed study on trace element geochemistry shows that the volcanic rocks were erupted in the back-arc basin. The volcanic rocks of early and middle stages of the expanding period of the basin have low REE and other incompatible element contents. At early and late stages of closing period of the basin, alkalic basalts, basaltic andesites and andesites were erupted in which light REE and other incompatible elements were enriched.

Electrolyte-diffusion of CoSO4 in pure aqueous solution is studied at 25℃ over a concentration range of 10-5-0.25 mol/l. The measurement of diffusion coefficients are done by improved capillary technique without stirring. These values are compared with the theoretical values computed on the basis of Onsager-Fuoss theory.
